Chocolate Whip Tallow

For those who want deep, lasting lip nourishment built on grass-fed tallow, with the richness of real cacao and the fresh clarity of peppermint. Choc Mint Tallow Lip Balm is designed to protect, soften, and maintain the lips with a formula that holds its structure while gliding on smoothly, leaving a subtle chocolate-mint profile that feels clean, balanced, and unmistakably natural.

Made with a concentrated tallow base, combined with sheep lanolin and beeswax to create a balm that stays in place and continues working long after application. Cacao butter oil brings a warm, delicious natural chocolate aroma, while peppermint oil adds a light cooling feel and a clean mint finish that lifts the richness without overpowering it.

Key Ingredients & Their Benefits

Grass-Fed Beef Tallow

Tallow forms the foundation of this balm. It contains a balanced profile of fatty acids, including oleic, palmitic, stearic and linoleic acids that closely resemble the lipids found in healthy skin.

Because of this, it integrates well with the skin barrier, helping reduce moisture loss and improve overall lip condition over time. It is also naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E and K, which support skin repair, softness and resilience.

On the lips, this translates to reduced flaking, smoother texture, and more stable hydration that doesn’t disappear quickly after application.

Sheep Lanolin

Lanolin is highly effective at retaining moisture within the skin. It binds water and helps keep it in place, reducing dryness, cracking, and splitting.

It also improves flexibility, allowing the lips to move without breaking, particularly important in dry climates, air conditioning, or exposure to wind.

In this formula, lanolin gives the balm a dense, cushioned feel, helping the lips stay comfortable for longer periods without constant reapplication.

Natural Beeswax

Beeswax provides the structure and staying power of the balm. It forms a breathable protective layer that helps shield the lips from environmental stress while slowing down moisture loss.

It also ensures the balm holds its shape and stays in place after application, allowing the underlying ingredients to continue supporting the lips throughout the day.

Cacao Butter Oil

Cacao butter oil contributes additional fatty acids that help soften and condition the lips, improving texture and smoothness.

It also provides a natural chocolate aroma - deep, warm, and slightly sweet. There are no added flavours or synthetic fragrances. The scent comes directly from the cacao itself, giving the balm a subtle, indulgent character.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil brings a clean, fresh mint profile with a light cooling sensation.

It helps the lips feel more comfortable when they are dry or irritated, while adding a clear, refreshing contrast to the richness of cacao. The level is balanced to remain gentle for regular use while still giving that distinct chocolate-mint finish.

Perfect For

• Lips that crack, peel or split and need long-lasting nourishment and protection

• Daily barrier support in dry air, wind or temperature changes

• Maintaining soft, smooth lips without relying on synthetic or short-wear balms

• Those who prefer a structured balm that stays in place and continues working over time

• Anyone drawn to a natural chocolate-mint profile without artificial flavouring

Why Tallow for Lip Care

Lips don’t produce their own oils, which means they rely entirely on what you apply for hydration and protection.

Tallow is particularly effective because its fatty acid profile closely mirrors the skin’s own. This allows it to support the lip barrier directly, rather than acting as a temporary surface layer.

When combined with lanolin and beeswax, the formula works in layers.

Tallow helps restore and support the barrier.

Lanolin holds moisture within the skin.

Beeswax protects and seals it from external stress.

This creates a lip balm that delivers both immediate comfort and longer-term improvement in the condition of the lips.

Choc Mint Tallow Lip Balm brings these benefits together in a structured, long-wearing formula, with the richness of cacao and the freshness of peppermint creating a balanced, clean finish that smells and feels as good as it performs.

  • Lanolin
  • Beeswax

Why It Works

1. Bioavailable Lipids That Strengthen and Support the Lip Barrier

Grass-fed beef tallow contains a blend of fatty acids that closely mirror the natural oils found in healthy lip skin. This makes it highly compatible and effective for helping restore barrier function.

Key fatty acids include:

• Oleic Acid: Helps the balm melt in smoothly and improves suppleness.
• Palmitic Acid: Reinforces the barrier and helps maintain long-lasting hydration.
• Stearic Acid: Softens rough or peeling areas and supports overall texture.
• Linoleic Acid: Contributes to calmer, less irritated skin.

Because these lipids match what the lips naturally rely on, the hydration feels steady and comfortable rather than greasy or superficial.

2. Naturally Present Fat-Soluble Vitamins

Tallow delivers essential vitamins that directly influence lip repair and softness:

• Vitamin A: Assists with renewal and improving smoothness.
• Vitamin D: Supports the skin barrier and recovery.
• Vitamin E: Provides antioxidant protection against irritation.
• Vitamin K: Helps stressed lip skin appear more even and healthy.

These vitamins work together to improve comfort, resilience and long-term condition.

3. Lasting Moisture Through Lanolin’s Water-Binding Properties

Lanolin is highly effective at preventing moisture from evaporating. It binds hydration within the lips, helping them stay soft and flexible throughout the day.
It is especially useful for lips that crack or peel easily.

When paired with tallow, lanolin helps create a conditioning effect that remains noticeable well beyond the initial application.

4. Breathable Protection from Natural Beeswax

Beeswax forms a light yet durable barrier that helps shield against wind, heat and environmental dryness. It supports the balm’s ability to stay in place while still allowing the lips to breathe freely.

This helps extend the benefits of tallow and lanolin and contributes to calm, comfortable lips.

5. Rich, Natural Cacao from Cocoa Butter Oil

Cacao butter oil provides a naturally warm, chocolate aroma along with a dense profile of fatty acids that help soften and condition the lips.

It contributes to a smoother texture and helps improve the feel of dry or rough lips, supporting long-lasting comfort without relying on artificial flavours or fragrance.

Its antioxidant compounds also help protect the lips from daily environmental stress, making it especially useful when lips feel dry, exposed, or weathered.

6. Clean, Fresh Peppermint from Pure Essential Oil

Peppermint oil offers a natural mint scent and a subtle cooling feel on contact. It provides a fresh, clear profile without artificial scents and additives.

Its balancing properties can be helpful when lips feel irritated from heat or constant environmental exposure

7. Simple Ingredients Aligned with Lip Health

With only four ingredients; tallow, lanolin, beeswax and cocoa butter oil, this formula keeps lip care focused on what the skin actually needs.
It avoids unnecessary additives that often disrupt the barrier or dry lips out over time.

The result is a balm that delivers moisture, comfort and barrier support consistently, without needing constant reapplication.

How To Use

Apply a small amount to the lips as needed throughout the day. The balm melts on contact, so a light swipe is enough to deliver full nourishment.

For best results:

• Use on clean lips to allow the tallow and lanolin to absorb fully.
• Reapply before exposure to wind, cold, or dry air for added protection.
• Apply a slightly thicker layer at night as an overnight conditioning treatment.
• Can also be used around the lip line to soften fine, dry areas.

The balm is concentrated, so each tin lasts longer than conventional lip products. Let it warm against the skin, and allow the natural ingredients to support repair and long-lasting moisture.

Skin Experience

Our 100% tallow formulas - like Pure Tallow Glow and Vanilla Infused Tallow - are dense and firm by nature. These recipes contain no carrier oils or additives, which means the texture is harder but melts directly into the skin on contact.

If you prefer a softer, more spreadable consistency, our balms made with added carrier oils (like Radiant Repair and Balancing Beauty) are whipped to be lighter, silkier, and easier to apply.

Each product offers a different skin feel, all intentionally formulated for different needs and preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Beef tallow is rendered fat from cattle, rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as essential fatty acids. Its composition closely resembles the natural oils found in human skin, making it an excellent moisturiser and skin barrier protector. In skincare, it’s used to deeply nourish, hydrate, and support skin health without synthetic additives.

Beef tallow has a low comedogenic rating, meaning it is unlikely to clog pores. It helps balance natural oil production, making it suitable even for acne-prone skin when used correctly.

Our beef tallow comes from a trusted local farm in Sunshine Coast, QLD. The cattle are 100% grass-fed, homegrown, and raised without hormones or antibiotics in a natural, stress-free environment. This ensures our tallow is nutrient-rich, ethical, and sustainably sourced.

Absolutely! Beef tallow is excellent for facial skin, providing deep hydration without clogging pores. It’s especially beneficial for dry or sensitive skin and can even help soothe conditions like eczema or rosacea.

Store your Fat Lab skincare products in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Our products are shelf-stable but keeping them at room temperature or cooler will ensure maximum freshness.

Unlike shea butter or coconut oil, beef tallow’s composition closely mimics human skin, making it more easily absorbed. It also provides a unique balance of vitamins and fatty acids that are particularly effective for long-lasting hydration and skin repair.

Yes, we use 100% grass-fed beef suet fat as the base of our skincare. Suet is the clean, hard fat found around the kidneys and loins of healthy, grass-fed cattle, known for being nutrient-dense and exceptionally pure. When it’s slowly rendered, it turns into tallow, a rich stable fat naturally packed with vitamins A, D, E and K, as well as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and essential fatty acids that closely mirror the oils our skin produces on its own.

We choose suet because it creates a higher-grade tallow that’s cleaner, lighter and more stable than other fats. It absorbs effortlessly into the skin, delivers deep nourishment without synthetic additives, and supports the skin barrier in a way no plant or synthetic oil can. In short, suet is the gold standard of animal fats and the reason our tallow performs the way it does.

Our beef tallow is carefully rendered and refined to remove impurities and odours. While it has a mild, natural scent, we also blend it with essential oils or botanicals for a pleasant aroma in our skincare products.

Our beef tallow is not halal-certified. We source our suet from a small, local Queensland farm that raises 100% grass-fed, hormone-free cattle, but the animals are not processed under halal certification. While our products contain no pork or alcohol and are made from pure beef fat, we do not market them as halal.

Why Your Body

LOVES Tallow

It mirrors the skin’s own lipids

Tallow’s fatty acid profile closely resembles the fats found in healthy human skin. That similarity makes it easier for the skin to recognise and integrate, rather than treat it as something foreign.

It supports the skin barrier.

Tallow reinforces the lipid barrier that controls moisture loss and protection. When the barrier is supported, skin becomes calmer, more resilient, and less reactive over time.

It delivers fat-soluble nutrients the skin actually uses.

Naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble, meaning the skin can access them effectively when delivered in a fat-based form like tallow.

It provides long-lasting hydration without water

Because tallow is anhydrous, it doesn’t rely on water that evaporates quickly. It reduces moisture loss by sealing and supporting the barrier, leading to hydration that lasts.

It’s highly tolerated by compromised or sensitive skin

Skin that struggles with irritation, over-exfoliation, or chronic dryness often responds better to familiar lipid structures. Tallow is rarely disruptive when formulated and used properly.

It works with skin biology, not against it

Tallow doesn’t stimulate, exfoliate, or force change. It supports normal skin function, allowing the skin to repair, stabilise, and regulate itself.
